My Association with Tsing Hua

I have lived in Hsinchu since I was a child. Because my mother is working in Tsing Hua, I often go to the campus to take a walk or study on holidays. Before I was admitted to National Tsing Hua University, Tsing Hua was just a beautiful park to me. In the daytime, I saw colorful butterflies flying among flowers. In the night time, I l saw stars twinkling in the dark sky. During the winter, I like to go to Dr. Mei’s garden. The breathtaking scene brightened my eyes. The snowy flowers were dotted at the leafless stick and covered on the grass. The picture-like scene really makes me feel relaxed and forget the stress of exams.

Not until I entered Tsing Hua this fall did I realize that I am a part of Tsing Hua. I can take part in the activities held in Tsing Hua. In the soft ball game, I could feel the enthusiasm and everybody cheered for my team. It really moved me. I really enjoy going out and having dinner with my classmates, telling jokes and gossiping about others. Even after graduation, I will always remember the tears, laughs and all the unforgettable things in Tsing Hua.

One day I saw several people standing around a palm tree near the food court watching something above. I was curious and went there, and saw an owl in the tree. It was my first time to see a real wild owl. During that time, I often went there to see if it the owl was still there. Tsing Hua is a place filled with wonders and ecological treasures.

During my elementary school years, I joined a baseball team. The coach is Mr. Wu. He used to play for a national team in the little league. At that time, he was a famous pitcher in Taiwan. He was not only good at baseball, but also had a great talent in advanced study. Currently, he is a computer science professor in Tsing Hua. We played at the baseball fields of NTHU or NCTU. I learned a lot of baseball skills from him. I had a very good time then. I really admire him. From then on, I began to love to play baseball.

One thing deserved to mentioned here is that at the time when the first school semester was about to begin, I wanted to live in the dormitory, though my home is at Hsinchu. Unfortunately, I missed the due date. I could not enter the dormitory application system. The dormitory application due date was different from the student enrollment due date. I was very disappointed that I would not be able to live in a dormitory. I thought dormitory life was an important part of college life. To my surprise, a day later, a man from Tsing Hua called me. That day was Sunday. He said that the dormitory application records showed that I tried to enter the system to apply for a dormitory room. He asked if I still wanted to live in the dormitory. I said yes. At that time, I was very impressed by Tsing Hua’s efficiency and thoughtfulness.

Now I have studied Chemistry in Tsing Hua for three months. I realized that the life in the university is totally different from that in the senior high school. I need to organize things by myself, not by my parents. I also found that English is very important. Most of the text books are written in English and teachers speak English sometimes. There are many foreign students in Tsing Hua, so I have many opportunities to talk to them. Tsing Hua is really an international university. I hope to learn a lot from Tsing Hua in my four years of college life. I am eager to learn!
